Multi-Lingual Education (MLE) Project in Joda & Champua with DPO, RTE-SSA Support

Multi-Lingual Education (MLE) Project facilitated at Joda, Champua supported by DPO, RTE-SSA, Keonjhar for strong educational foundation in the first language enabling the use of both/all languages for life-long learning.

In partnership with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, WOSCA implemented multilingual education across 94 tribal primary schools in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Schools have been updated with paints a and learning aids as per thier regional dilets and languages. Children were taught in their home (native tribal) languages, supported by culturally relevant content and wall art, which boosted comprehension, identity, and retention.

Teachers were trained to use local dialects, creating inclusive classrooms that eased transitions to Odia and Hindi while preserving indigenous languages.
Tribal students became more engaged and confident, language exclusion was reduced, and indigenous languages were preserved alongside mainstream education. The programme strengthened cultural identity while improving school readiness and retention.
