Nutritional Rehabilitation Centres: Restoring Health & Hope for Malnourished Children

Since April 2019 to March 2024, WOSCA managed 4 NRCs with support from DMF to provide clinical care and psychosocial support for children under 5 who are suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Starting with a 10‑bed NRC at Barbil, the programme expanded with four additional centres inaugurated between 2022–2023. The NRCs emphasize therapeutic feeding, medical management, and capacity‑building of mothers and caregivers in appropriate child‑care practices.
From 2019 to March 2024, 1,640 children benefited from NRC services, with 42 referred to higher institutions for advanced treatment. The initiative has significantly reduced child mortality, improved recovery rates, and strengthened family awareness on nutrition and hygiene.
