At WOSCA, climate conservation is not just about protecting the environment — it is about reshaping the future of communities.
In the tribal heartlands of Odisha, where rainfall is abundant yet water scarcity persists, WOSCA has turned challenges into opportunities. By harnessing every drop through the Catch the Rain campaign, building resilient rainwater management systems, and leading plantation drives that restore degraded lands, we are creating a model of ecological stewardship and livelihood security.
Catch the Rain
Through the national Catch the Rain campaign, WOSCA has mobilized tribal and rural communities to harness every drop of rainfall. By constructing farm ponds, percolation pits, and rooftop harvesting systems, villages are now able to recharge groundwater, reduce runoff, and secure water for agriculture and household use.
Rainwater Management
WOSCA has transformed wastelands into fertile farmland by converging with MGNREGA and local governance institutions. Check dams, contour trenches, and irrigation channels have been developed to stabilize water tables and ensure year‑round water availability.
These interventions have strengthened farming confidence, reduced migration, and created sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Plantation Drives
Large‑scale plantation initiatives across Keonjhar and Sundargarh have restored degraded landscapes and diversified farmer incomes. More than 800 hectares of fruit tree plantations have been established in convergence with the Forest Department, Horticulture Department, and MGNREGA. Communities are trained in orchard care, intercropping, and soil conservation, embedding ecological stewardship into everyday practice.
