Child Marriage-India Project supported by Development Focus

WOSCA started a project to stop child marriage by teaching school children about healthy relationships, reproductive health, and the dangers of early marriage.

In 20 villages of Keonjhar, the project trained 120 local youth leaders (called Yuba Mitra) and formed 40 youth groups to spread awareness and change people’s thinking. These young leaders talked to families and communities about why children should not marry early.

The project reached 600 women in savings groups, 120 village leaders, and 55 teachers with messages about protecting children. Videos and pamphlets were shown in villages to educate more people.

Because of these efforts, six child marriages were prevented through counselling by local youth leaders, proving that the project is successfully protecting children and their futures.
