Program: Climate Change, preservation of environment and Culture |
To reduce the hazards associated with climate change, WOSCA also encouraged the use of solar home lighting equipment. Lanterns and several lights powered by solar energy have been installed to compensate for the energy that would have ordinarily come from fossil fuels. Solar lights and Fans require minimal maintenance and reduce the risk of accidents as external wires are eliminated. The use of solar energy also helps the communities battle the challenges of an irregular domestic power supply, thereby enabling students to study at night and families to fulfil household chores after sunset. In four blocks of the districts 100 rural farmers have been supported with home lights, 10 SHGs with solar fan and 4 SHGs with solar pump sets. |
