ITDP – WADI Project is a NABARD supported livelihood Development Programme under its Tribal Development Fund scheme being implemented in 500 acres of wasteland of Banspal Block of Keonjhar district covering 581 tribal people. The project is being implemented in 7 villages of 3 GPs of banspal block of Keonjhar. Out of the total, 531 Tribal farmers and 50 landless families have been covered under this project. The project aims to implement the waste land development same as natural resource management, soil moisture conservation and to support social mobilization effort. There are 12476 mango plants, 11974 cashew plants and 10027 pomegranate plants provided to the tribal people for WADI development. Project is being implemented through conducting village meeting, identifying the beneficiaries, wasteland for plantation, converging MGNREGA for pit digging & land development, plantation, applying fertilizers, fencing and provisioning the water facilities are the key activities taken up in the project. Inter crops taken up as interim profit and nutrition supplementation of tribal families Apart from this farm mechanization and vegetable demonstrations taken up in the project with tribal beneficiaries. There are 34 Udyan Vikas Samiti (UVS) formed and strengthened to manage the WADI activities in the project areas. 11 Solar pumps have been supported to 11 UVS in convergence mode for irrigation in WADI site. From intercropping, WADI farmers are getting an average income of Rs.8,000/- to Rs.10,000/- per month in both Rabi and khariff. Again, total 8 borewells have been provisioned for the WADI beneficiaries as irrigation measure.
