A locally managed pre-delivery facility offering dignified lodging, antenatal support, and direct referral links to health centers for women from hard-to-reach communities.
The Maternity Waiting Home (Maa Gruha, Revnapalaspal) provides a safe, supportive place for expectant mothers from remote villages to stay in the days leading up to delivery, ensuring timely access to skilled care. Operated as part of the community health network, the facility offers basic antenatal monitoring, nutrition and counselling, clean accommodation, and immediate referral links to nearby Community Health Centers and higher facilities when complications arise. Staffed by trained attendants and coordinated with ASHA workers and ANMs, the Maternity Waiting Home also facilitates postnatal follow-up, newborn checks, and health education sessions on birth preparedness, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Since the program began, the Maternity Waiting Home has played a central role in improving maternal outcomes: hundreds of women have been admitted for safe delivery preparation and postnatal care, and the facility’s close coordination with emergency transport services has helped reduce delays and prevent home births. By offering dignified, locally accessible pre-delivery accommodation and strengthening referral pathways, the Maa Gruha builds community trust in formal health services and contributes directly to higher institutional delivery rates and better newborn follow-up in hard-to-reach areas.
